Fiddler’s Mill

First built in 1821 by Daniel Peck, the original mill was a small structure built on four posts along the Little Kanawha River.

The mill was then purchased by William Fiddler in the 1840’s along with a 200 acre farm, and it remained in the Fiddler family for most of the next 140 years. William, using slave labor, enlarged the mill and built a dam a short distance up stream. A wooden mill race powered a saw mill, and a 20-foot overshot wheel was used to grind grain. Fiddler’s Mill is fully operational historical gristmill, and guided tours are available on the weekend.

The mill eventually became a community building, an economic center, a social hall, and a primary visual attraction of the area.

Colonial Hotel-Motel

A locally owned hotel conveniently located close to Main Street. Quaint and independent, we are reminiscent of how hospitality used to be… a facility with all the modern conveniences, yet preserving the charm and decor of the early 1900s. The lobby speaks of this old-time charm with its wormy chestnut paneling, elegant oak fireplace, and the inviting fragrance of fresh-brewed coffee. The office is open round the clock and guests are encouraged to stop, have a cup of coffee and visit a while. Quiet, comfortable, convenient, and priced to fit your budget.

Audrey’s Downtown Restaurant
38 North Kanawha Street
Buckhannon, West Virginia 26201

Several years ago Lewis Anderson, at the time a county deputy, began the first bluegrass gathering at the county jail. From there over a period of a few years it moved around. From the jailhouse it moved to Lester Kendrick’s music store on Main Street, to an industrial building where Lowes now sits, to Lewis County, and now back in Buckhannon. This energetic, live performance is great fun!
