Saturday, February 24, 2018

7:30 PM – 9:00 PM
Lascaux Micro-Theater
33 East Main Street
Buckhannon, WV 26201

Three Palestinian women sharing an apartment in the heart of Tel Aviv find themselves doing the same balancing act between tradition and modernity, citizenship and culture, loyalty and freedom. Lalia, a criminal lawyer, loves to burn off her workday stress in the underground club scene. Salma, a DJ and bartender, starts a budding relationship with a female medical intern. And their new roommate Nur is a younger, religious Muslim university student whose conservative fiancé is horrified by her secular friends. This film takes a light yet nuanced approach to complex, timely themes, further enriched by outstanding cinematography and power performances.

ROTTENTOMATOES.com gives this film a 98% rating, which is pretty darn good!

Maple Syrup Festival

In late winter, here in our mountains surrounding Pickens, when nights are freezing and days begin to warm, it’s time for a full weekend of activities!

Maple Syrup Festival

Maple Syrup Festival

Saturday, March 17, 2018

12:00 AM – 11:59 PM
Pickens
1 Main Street
Pickens, WV 26230

In late winter, here in our mountains surrounding Pickens, when nights are freezing and days begin to warm, it’s maple sugaring time! We collect and transport the sap to a sugar house where it is boiled down in large evaporating pans making the thick, golden syrup. It takes about 45 gallons of sap to make one gallon of maple syrup. The hot syrup is then filtered and packed into storage jugs. West Virginia has a long history of sugar making. The Indians made syrup first. They threw hot rocks into hollowed-out logs that were filled with sap. The early settler quickly learned to make the sweet stuff and use it as their main source of sugar.

Today, maple syrup and sugar are widely used in cooking, baking, and as topping. Join us for a full weekend of activities celebrating this tradition each year on the third full weekend in March!
