The West Virginia State Wildlife Center will celebrate the 41st Annual Groundhog Day with our resident weather prognosticator, French Creek Freddie! Freddie will emerge from his den at 10:00 a.m.  According to legend, if he sees his shadow, we’ll have six more weeks of winter.  If Freddie doesn’t see his shadow, we’ll have an early spring!

We’ll start the ceremonies at 9:30 a.m. in the Amphitheater.  The band “Enny Corner” will perform a few songs including their original “French Creek Freddie” song.   After Freddie makes his prediction, we’ll have our Wood Chuckin’ contest with prizes for different age groups.  Our French Creek Freddie mascot will be on hand so bring your camera and get your picture taken with a 7’ 8” Top-Hat wearin’ Groundhog.

There is no charge for this event.  Visitors are invited to tour the rest of the facility. We’ll have hot chocolate and cookies in the Gift Shop after the festivities.
