Inaugural West Virginia Community Band Festival
Music brings us together, and on Saturday, May 2, 2026, the Buckhannon Community Band is bringing the whole state to our doorstep. We are honored to host 10 bands from across West Virginia for a full day of performances at the Buckhannon-Upshur High School auditorium. Shop local with indoor craft vendors, and grab a bite from onsite food trucks. Admission is completely free and open to the public. Don’t miss this historic celebration of local music!

Week Two: Strawberry Moon Feast—Friday May 8 @6 PM
There is a particular night in early May when the hills soften. The air turns fragrant with green things. Strawberries begin to glow like small lanterns in the fields.
Strawberry Moon Feast is a celebration of that moment.
This is not polished city spring. This is Appalachian abundance. Cast iron warmth. Porch laughter. Wine poured generously and often.
Four courses built around the first blush of strawberry season. Wines chosen to echo the soil, the sun, and the sweetness of longer evenings.

The West Virginia Strawberry Festival is a signature spring celebration in Buckhannon that blends small-town charm with big-time fun. Each May, the community comes alive with vibrant parades, live entertainment, carnival rides, artisan vendors, and an irresistible lineup of strawberry-inspired treats. Rooted in local heritage and powered by community pride, the festival offers something for every age. Almost Heaven BBQ Bash
The Almost Heaven BBQ Bash is one of West Virginia’s most sizzling summer celebrations, held each June in Jawbone Park in downtown Buckhannon. This free-admission festival brings together top-ranked Kansas City Barbecue Society teams from across the country to compete in chicken, ribs, pork, and brisket cook-offs, while a variety of food vendors serve up delicious BBQ and other favorites. Upshur County Relay for Life Stars and Stripes for a Cure
Join Upshur County Relay for Life for our annual Upshur County Relay for Life. to celebrate our survivors, remember those who died fighting cancer, and honor those who continue to fight back against this disease.
Teams fundraise all year long and will be set up at Relay selling concessions and more to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Our cancer survivors are the VIPS of Relay and they will be honored with a reception before Relay begins as well as walk the first lap of Relay.
At dark, we will light the luminarias to remember those who passed away and honor those still fighting back against cancer.

The Upshur County Uprising returns to Upshur County Recreation Park in Buckhannon, WV as part of the 2026 West Virginia Mountain Bike Association (WVMBA) Race Series. This exciting cross-country mountain bike event features multiple race distances and categories — from beginner to competitive riders and e-bikes — winding through well-designed trails that challenge and reward riders of all skill levels. Whether you’re chasing results or riding for fun, this race is a great way to connect with the mountain bike community and enjoy the scenic Upshur County trails.

About the Ramp Dinner
The Upshur County Public Library transforms into a high class dining experience once again! The 31st annual Gourmet Ramp Dinner Extravaganza kicks off at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17th. It is brought to you by Chef Dale Hawkins of Fish Hawk Acres. We are planning for a large crowd and will have multiple serving lines to make the line flow smoothly again this year. Take out is also an option, though we would love for you to experience the ambiance of the library while you are eating.
This culinary experience is available only once a year and has been a tradition in Upshur County since 1994. Since 1979, the mission of the Upshur County Public Library has been to provide our community with lifelong learning opportunities by providing access to materials, services, technologies and programs for patrons of all ages. These programs and services are only possible through active and sustained community support.
This is a unique opportunity to sample the following gourmet ramp dishes. If you would like the non-ramp version of the meal, please specify when reserving your ticket.

Lions Club Easter Egg Hunt
The Buckhannon Lions Club will host its annual Matt Hymes Memorial Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 4, at Buckhannon City Park. The beloved community tradition welcomes children 12 and under, with festivities beginning at 11 a.m. Younger participants, ages 3 and under, will enjoy a dedicated hunting area to ensure a fun and safe experience.
Dozens of prize-filled eggs will be hidden throughout the park, and children can redeem special finds for prizes at the gazebo. Organizers also promise that every child will leave with at least one toy-filled egg and a handful of chocolate.
The event, which dates back more than 60 years, honors the memory of longtime Lions Club member Matt Hymes, whose dedication helped shape the tradition into a cherished local celebration.

First Course
Asparagus & Leek Soup with Lemon Crème Fraîche
Velvety green, gently sweet from slow cooked leeks, finished with a swirl of lemon crème fraîche that adds just enough sparkle to wake everything up.
Wine Pairing: Grüner Veltliner Crisp, herbaceous, with a hint of white pepper. Grüner loves asparagus. It mirrors the freshness and keeps the palate lively.
Second Course
Crab Cake with House Remoulade
Golden, delicate, packed with sweet crab and just enough crunch. Served simply, letting the seafood speak while the remoulade adds brightness and gentle heat.
