Lascaux Micro Theater brings you the 4 HOUR documentary: LONG STRANGE TRIP: THE UNTOLD STORY OF THE GRATEFUL DEAD

Check out the trailer here: https://youtu.be/CzJFPlLdISo

LONG STRANGE TRIP currently holds an astounding 100% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes!

This film is comprised of 6 distinct chapters (acts), and we’ve been struggling to decide on the best way to present this film, given that it is 4 hours long. To start with, a 15 minute intermission will be provided between acts 3 and 4. We presume that serious fans will see the entire film in one evening, and that others may want to split the film over two separate screenings. Here is the complete schedule that we’ve come up with (please note the extra Saturday matinee’s and the earlier start times):

FRIDAY, (1/31), 6:30PM-10:45pm
SATURDAY, (2/01), 1:00pm-5:15pm
SATURDAY, (2/01), 6:30pm-10:45pm
SUNDAY, (2/02), 1:00pm-5:15pm
FRIDAY, (2/07), 6:30PM-10:45pm
SATURDAY, (2/08), 1:00pm-5:15pm
SATURDAY, (2/08), 6:30pm-10:45pm
SUNDAY, (2/09), 1:00pm-5:15pm

Ticket price for the film will be $12, and if you choose to not see the entire film at one time, you will be allowed to reenter the theater at any of the above screenings, to continue where you left off.

This is the DEFINITIVE story about the DEAD, with an epic scale that the band truly deserves. Famously averse to publicity, the GRATEFUL DEAD flouted music-industry convention by giving their live music away to a global network of tape traders and became the highest-grossing concert act in America through word of mouth alone. Produced by Martin Scorsese (The Last Waltz), LONG STRANGE TRIP is the first full-length documentary about the DEAD to explore the fiercely independent vision, perpetual innovation, and uncompromising commitment to their audience that made the Bay Area band one of the most influential musical groups of their generation. With a soundtrack that captures some of the band’s most dynamic live performances as well as unguarded offstage moments and never-before-seen interviews, footage and photos, LONG STRANGE TRIP explores the DEAD’s singular experiment in radically eclectic music making.

On a related note, just 2 years ago, on its 40th anniversary, the legendary live performance of the DEAD at CORNELL ’77 was officially released as an album. It has been my favorite bootleg since I stumbled upon it in college, and it is widely considered to be one of the band’s best performances, which until recently was only available on worn-out cassette tapes. This recording was included in the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress in 2012 because of its wide-spread influence on American counter-culture.

“At three hours and 58 minutes, it has the sprawl and generosity of a good Dead show, yet there’s nothing indulgent about it – it’s an ardent piece of documentary classicism. Deadheads will drink it in and debate it, poring over every detail it works in and leaves out, yet the ultimate recommendation I can give the movie is this: I’m one of those people who never “got” the Grateful Dead… yet I found Long Strange Trip enthralling. For the first time, it made me see, and feel, and understand the glory of what they were up to.”-Owen Glieberman, Variety
