Upshur County Schools will present a county-wide art exhibition featuring student artworks at the Colonial Theatre Gallery starting Saturday, April 3, 2021, with a special opening reception from 4 to 8 p.m.
The fine art exhibition, free and open to the public, marks the second time that Upshur County School students will have the opportunity to participate in a multi-school exhibition of their own artworks. Keeping with current COVID-19 safety and social distancing protocols, ART26201 will be offering free masks at the event.
“As a community, we are so fortunate to have art programs in all schools of Upshur County. This past year has provided many challenges for both students and teachers, and I feel this show to be a celebration of overcoming our obstacles in the pursuit of creating art,” said Heidi Thompson, lead organizer for the event and Fine Art Department Chair at Buckhannon-Upshur High School.
“It’s thrilling to see how wonderfully creative our youth are. ART26201 is deeply honored to again showcase their artworks at the Colonial Theatre Gallery, said ART26201’s John Waltz. “The Colonial Theatre will truly be a hub of arts activity for local students of all ages. It is already proving to be a space where professional and aspiring artists alike can grow, express themselves, and create important dialogue around the arts. It’s that vision that has driven our programming, fundraising, and planning.”
In addition to the opening event on April 3, the Colonial Theatre Gallery will be open from 4-8 p.m. on April 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, & 24.
The exhibition is a collaboration of the Upshur County School art teachers, the City of Buckhannon, and ART26201. Significant financial assistance for the Colonial Theatre Rehabilitation project has been provided by the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History.
