The Upshur County Convention and Visitors Bureau seeks a full-time Executive Director; an energetic, creative, highly motivated and forward thinking individual to effectively promote tourism within Upshur County and throughout the state and region. The ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of individuals and organizations is necessary, as are the skills to work independently without a great deal of direct supervision. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills, including a proven ‘track record’ of handling a number of tasks and responsibilities simultaneously. Preference will be given to those candidates who have experience and/or education in marketing and public relations. Salary is commensurate with experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR | UPSHUR COUNTY CONVENTION AND VISITORS BUREAU

 

The Executive Director, who reports to the Board of Directors, is responsible for the general management and leadership of the Upshur County Convention and Visitors Bureau. Primary responsibilities include working with local businesses and organizations to promote tourism within Upshur County; working collaboratively with other regional organizations to promote central West Virginia as an excellent place in which to work, live and enjoy the many tourism attractions and destinations; seek out grant opportunities to support the efforts of the UCCVB and submit relevant grant proposals; and, develop and implement a comprehensive marketing plan to promote the local and regional attractions and opportunities.

 

Specific responsibilities are as follows:

 

Work with Local Businesses and Organizations

  • Attend and participate in formal and informal meetings of local civic organizations to cultivate relationships and develop partnerships
  • Meet with local leaders to discuss short-term and long-term goals, as well as to learn about history and heritage of Upshur County
  • Provide presentations for various organizations to promote understanding of CVB goals, and to solicit support and collaboration
  • Work with local organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, Upshur County Development Authority and Create Buckhannon to solicit ideas and feedback and to encourage broad-based support and inclusive programming and event planning

Collaborate with Organizations within the Region to Promote Common Goals, Programs and Events

  • Work with leaders of other CVB organizations to determine areas of potential collaboration and support
  • Attend to necessary paperwork and other requirements to maintain accreditation with the WV Association of CVBs
  • Attend and participate in conferences that provide opportunities for regional promotion, collaboration and cooperation
  • Promote Upshur County to other counties within the region; tap into events and opportunities presently offered throughout region

Develop Comprehensive Marketing Plan and Related Materials

  • Evaluate the brand, message and creative concepts annually to develop a complete Marketing Plan for the promotion of tourism in Upshur County and the region
  • Create print materials pamphlets to promote tourism at the local and regional level
  • Develop and maintain website and social media presence that focuses on promoting Upshur County, with particular focus on tourism opportunities
  • Assist in the promotion and marketing of special events in the community. Collaborate with event coordinators to ensure a successful event and proper event promotion
  • Consider other creative marketing opportunities; conduct research to assess effectiveness of marketing efforts

Seek Out Grant Opportunities; Develop and Submit Proposals

  • Develop systems and processes through which to learn about relevant grant opportunities at the state and federal level, as well as through private foundations
  • Work with local and regional organizations to develop grants that are comprehensive and inclusive
  • Develop comprehensive plan for grants; involve other organizations at the local, regional and state level

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Analyze the budget and make recommendations regarding short-term and long-term projects and vision
  • In conjunction with Treasurer of the Board of Directors, develop annual budget and oversee budget/finances
  • Develop monthly and annual reports to be submitted to relevant organizations and individuals
  • Create processes and systems to promote and demonstrate commitment to accountability and transparency

Work with Board of Directors

  • Solicit feedback and ideas from board members
  • Develop annual ‘business/operations’ plan and submit to board for feedback and approval
  • Provide monthly reports on finances, events, activities, goals and objectives; focus on progress related to annual plan
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned
