The aniticipation is growing in Buckhannon to once again celebrate the much loved strawberry! After the cancellation of the 2020 festival, and a mini-festival in 2021, we can’t wait for the full Strawberry Festival experience with parades, a carnival, special exhibits and the best selection of strawberry foods.
Parades | Strawberry Lane begins at the intersection of Camden Avenue and Marion Street, then flows to Main Street, ending at the Charles Gibson Library. Strawberry Festival attendees line the streets with chairs to watch 4 different parades. Kicking off the Strawberry Festival on May 14th is the Horse & Carriage Parade where you can catch antique horse-drawn carriages, horse teams and riders. A hometown favorite, the Junior Royalty Parade is a fun parade full of floats and community groups and will be held on May 19th. The Fireman’s Parade might be noisy, but is a fun way to recognize our firefighters and first responders who serve Upshur County, as well as our neighboring areas. Wrapping up the festivities on May 21st is the Grand Feature Parade that boasts bands, entertainment groups, extravagent floats and our Strawberry Festival Royalty.
Strawberries & Food | You can’t celebrate the WV Strawberry Festival without eating all the food. Like, all the food. Find food vendors set up at Jawbone Park serving up corndogs, funnel cakes, gyros, french fries, and other carnival styled treats. Local restaurants join the fun by featuring special strawberry dishes and drinks all week long, too! And if you’re looking for West Virginia grown strawberries, stop by the Chamber & Visitors Center on Main Street for the Strawberry Market where you can buy pints of fresh strawberries.
Exhibits & Activities | One of the best parts of the WV Strawberry Festival are the traditions that bring people together. Events like the Strawberry Blonde, the Photography Exhibit, Party Gras, Irish Road Bowling, the Strawberry Mile and more bring so much joy and excitement. Each year feels like a party with a busy week of fun. You can be a part of the contests & exhibits – just find your favorite event and get registered!
